(BREAKING) Sources: Everton make move to sign Chelsea star Conor Gallagher

Everton have registered their interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, sources have told Football Insider.

Toffees manager Frank Lampard is a huge admirer of the 22-year-old and has made him a priority target in the final weeks of the window.

Everton have let Chelsea know their interest but are waiting for indications that Gallagher will be made available.

There is hope among the Goodison Park hierarchy that the London giants could deem the young Englishman surplus to requirements as they look to fund more marquee signings to follow Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Crystal Palace are also interested in re-signing Gallagher on loan following his outstanding 2021-22 campaign at the club that yielded eight Premier League goals from midfield.

Everton would prefer a permanent deal for the four-times England international and have set aside more than £30million if Chelsea are willing to sell.

The Merseysiders’ only signing this summer has been the free transfer of James Tarkowski.

They are now looking to recruit midfield and attacking players to a team short of what Lampard believes is the quality needed for a top-eight finish.

Gallagher has yet to make his senior debut for Chelsea despite accumulating 64 Premier League and 45 Championship appearances.

He has starred on loan at West Brom, Swansea City and Charlton Athletic, as well as Palace.
