Netherlands defeat USA 3-1 to reach quarter-finals

The Netherlands defeated the United States of America 3-1 on Saturday to move into the quarter-finals of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

First-half goals from Memphis Depay and Daley Blind and a late Denzel Dumfries strike after Haji Wright had pulled one back for the Americans, made the Dutch team the first side to progress to the last eight.

After the victory over the United States, the Dutch will face either Argentina or Australia in the last eight.

Lionel Messi will be hoping he can lead Argentina, the Group C leader, into the quarter-finals with a win against Australia, as the winner will face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.
